Profile of BHARAT MAHODAYA, Chairman CSV
Bharat Mahodaya was born at Wardha, Maharashtra in May 1949. His family originally belongs to Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh. He had his school education at Swavalambi Vidyalaya, Wardha. He obtained bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Indore in 1972.In addition, he obtained ‘Sahitya Ratna’ in Hindi from Prayag, Allahabad and ‘Rashtrabhasha Ratna’ also in Hindi from Rashtrabhasha Prachar Samiti, Wardha. He also holds two bachelor’s degrees from the Nagpur University, one in Gandhian thought and another in Ambedkar Thought. He obtained his Master’s degree in Non-violence and Peace Studies from Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University, Wardha in 2004. In October, 2015 he successfully completed Appreciation Course on Environment (ACE) of IGNOU.
He served as a Civil Engineer in the Department of Irrigation, Government of Maharashtra from July 1972 to December 2004. He took voluntary retirement from the Government Service and joined as the Director of the Institute of Gandhian Studies, Wardha in January, 2005. Since then he has been serving as a member of the teaching faculty of the Institute. He is the co-editor of the following books ‘Essays on Conflict Resolution’ (2007), Non-violent Struggles of the Twentieth Century: Retrospect and Prospect (2009), Contemporary Perspectives on Peace and Non-violence (2010), Reflections on Hind Swaraj (2011) Gandhi Environment and Sustainable Future(2011) Continuing Relevance of Swadeshi (2012) published by the Institute of Gandhian Studies. He travelled to foreign countries like U.S.A., Kuwait and Nepal for work related to Gandhian and Peace Studies.
Bharat Mahodaya is basically an activist and works in collaboration with number of institutions and movements. He is holding various positions in a number of institutions working on Gandhian lines. He is at present Vice President of Shiksha Mandal, Wardha which is running many colleges in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
In addition, he is the Secretary of Gandhi Gyan Mandir, Wardha which runs a library and Bajaj Science Education Centre; Chairman of Centre of Science for Villages, Dattapur, Wardha; Executive Vice President, Geetai Mission, Wardha; Member, Executive Committee, Manohar Dham, (working in the field of leprosy) Dattapur, Wardha; Member, Executive Committee, Gandhi Seva Sangh, Sewagram; Member, Executive Committee, Gram Seva Mandal (working in the field of khadi and village industries), Gopuri, Wardha; Member, Executive Committee, Mahila Seva Mandal (dedicated to service and education of women), Wardha; Permanent invitee, Advisory Board, Jankidevi Bajaj Gram Vikas Sanstha’s (JBGVS), Wardha Project and Member, Selection Committee for Jamnalal Bajaj Award for Constructive Work. He is one the trustees of Miners’ Welfare Trust of Gandhi Labour Foundation, Puri, Orissa. He was responsible for the founding of the "Srujan" a group consisting mainly of government employees (both retired and working) mainly concentrating on rural service in Wardha district.
